Pineapple Juice

Title: Pineapple Juice
Category: Poetry
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Theme(s): Youth, Life, Faith

Do you remember the days of pineapple juice?
When life was
Fresh
And
Sweet
And
Yellow?
I remember the days
When playgrounds were time machines
And alien dogs would chase screaming girls around the yard
When scabbed knees were healed with a kiss
And only dead fish broke hearts
Just for a minute
Because the mermaids were waiting to play

Why is it now like prune juice?
Hot
And
Sticky
And
Purple Moldy.
I know these days
The fairy princesses are on magazine covers
Imagination is only in foreplay
Lies are handed out like candy canes at Christmas
More responsibility brings greater rewards
Corruption brings pleasure
Really?
Yes, really.
Oh.

I hear the end of the world is coming
Served with the prune juice
But why won’t it come already?
After the end of the world
There’s pineapple juice…
Fresh
And
Sweet
And
Yellow.
